WHAT IT WON’T DO
What a whole house filter won't do
It won't soften your water. Carbon takes chlorine off. It doesn't remove calcium or magnesium, and it doesn't stop scale.
JEA doesn't soften either. So hardness arrives at your tap intact, roughly 120 to 372 mg/L. That's about 7 to 21.7 gpg, with a median near 16 depending on the wellfield serving you. A filter changes how your water tastes. It doesn't change what's building up inside your water heater.
Two more things it isn't. A whole house filter isn't a drinking-water purifier. And it isn't a bacteria treatment. One tank doing all four jobs isn't a thing that exists. Knowing that before you buy is worth more than any feature list.

Order isn't a preference or a house style. Each stage protects the one behind it. Get it backwards and you lose the stage you put first.

Can a whole house filter reduce PFAS?
It can reduce PFAS, and reduce is the only word that belongs in that sentence. EPA says activated carbon and reverse osmosis can reduce PFAS in drinking water.
It tells consumers to look for products certified to NSF/ANSI 53 for filters, or NSF/ANSI 58 for reverse osmosis. EPA's finalized limits for PFOA and PFOS are 4.0 parts per trillion.
